Family Enrichment Center

Summer STEAM Program

The Summer STEAM Program at the Family Enrichment Center is a dynamic learning experience that blends science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics with mentorship, creativity, and fun. Designed for school-aged youth, this hands-on summer initiative helps children discover their interests, develop real-world skills, and build the confidence to imagine their futures.

We believe learning shouldn’t stop when school lets out. The Summer STEAM Program keeps young minds engaged, curious, and inspired—while also offering working caregivers a trusted, nurturing space for their children.

Our Mission

To empower children through engaging, hands-on experiences that foster critical thinking, creativity, teamwork, and self-confidence in a safe, culturally responsive, and inclusive environment.

We strive to close the opportunity gap and spark a lifelong love of learning in youth from underserved communities.

What Is STEAM?

STEAM stands for:

  • Science – Exploring nature, conducting experiments, and asking “why?”
  • Technology – Using tablets, coding games, and learning digital safety
  • Engineering – Building, creating, testing, and redesigning
  • Arts – Expressing identity through drawing, storytelling, music, and performance
  • Mathematics – Solving real-life problems through numbers and logic

Our program integrates all five areas to develop well-rounded thinkers and future leaders.

Program Highlights

Each summer includes:

  • Weekly STEAM themes (e.g., Robotics, Space, Environmental Science, Music & Math)
  • Project-based learning and take-home creations
  • Field trips to science centers, art exhibits, and nature preserves
  • Team competitions and problem-solving challenges
  • Special guest speakers and community mentors
  • Breakfast, lunch, and snacks provided
  • A final Family Showcase Day to celebrate student achievements

Who Can Participate

The program is designed for:

  • Children ages 6 to 12 years old
  • Hillsborough County residents
  • Students who benefit from engaging, active summer learning
  • Families looking for safe, supportive summer options

No prior STEAM experience is required—just curiosity and a willingness to explore!

Why It Matters

Many students experience the “summer slide”—a learning loss that disproportionately affects children in under-resourced communities. Our Summer STEAM Program bridges that gap by combining academic enrichment with creative expression and social development.

Children leave the program more confident, more capable, and more connected to their community.

How to Apply

Enrollment typically opens in March and closes in May. Space is limited and fills quickly.
